New Orleans – The Garden District

Joseph Merrick Jones House (Currently John Goodman’s Home)

May 20, 2017

After brunch, it was onto the Hop on and Hop off tour.   After we circled the Mercedes-Benz superdome we headed over the Garden district.  We got off the bus and took a walking tour.  I am glad a took a tour, I had been to the Garden district before but I hadn’t taken a tour.  There is looking at nice houses and then there is looking at nice houses while be told who built the house, what they did and who visited them.  We saw the house that was the inspiration for Disneyland’s Haunted House, we saw the house that Anne Rice lived in.  We saw the house of the Carroll family and learned how Mark Twain would stay there when he visited New Orleans.

We passed by the house that was used in the “American Horror Story” (Coven) and we stopped by the Joseph Merrick Jones House, where the lead singer of Nine Inch Nails used to live before selling his house to John Goodman.   What a huge and gorgeous house.  I guess being on “Roseanne” for almost a decade paid some really good money.
