It was the final night on the boat and our final hurrah. It was Pat’s Birthday and her husband had been planning a surprise for her. I had gotten to know Pat and Dan along the way and really enjoyed getting to know them. They were great to travel with!
While we were seeing the lacquer making factory, Dan had disappeared to find Pat a Birthday gift. Of course everyone was all questions when he turned up again. Was he going to be able to get away with anything with everyone asking questions? Some of these old women were yelling when they thought they were whispering. Could the secret be kept?
We headed to dinner and enjoyed our last meal together. At the end of the evening, the staff dimmed the lights and staff came out with a Birthday cake and sang Happy Birthday. If she wasn’t surprised, you wouldn’t have ever known that.
