The Blue Danube

After years of travel, I realized that there are some things that it doesn’t matter what country I am or what flight I am on, some things are universal.  First and foremost, economy class sucks.  I have yet to find on an airline where it doesn’t and on an international flights, it still sucks, just for a longer time.  Making it worst, there are always a few people who think for some reason they don’t belong in economy class and expects everyone around them to accommodate their needs.

I noticed my ticket said, “1 carry-on”  in both English and German. I thought it was a domestic rule but I guess it isn’t.  Most people are good about this, however, there are always a few that don’t even try and have four or five bags.  The women in front of me each had at least four bags – then they complained they didn’t have enough overhead space.  I wondered if they even knew if checking baggage was an option.

I also noticed on this trip the “I need to get to the front of the line to ask, what line is this?”  I thought this was limited to elderly Asian women known as crazy aunties but today I realized that it happens in other cultures as well.  When this happens, I think, “the people in the back of the line don’t know what line this is?

My final observation was playing when someone is playing with the air conditioning controls usually means they just let one rip and are now trying to blow it into different directions to diffuse it.  It doesn’t work, the plane is one big Dutch oven and those fumes are going to linger.

My flight from Los Angeles to Frankfurt was 10 hours.  My flight from Frankfurt to Budapest was almost an hour.  Overall, it went well.  I have to admit, I have always been impressed by Lufthansa airlines.  The minute to flight starts, the crew is in action, everything is on a tight schedule – everyone keeps working until their scheduled breaks and those flight attendants don’t take crap from anyone.

I arrived in Budapest and got to my hotel in late afternoon.

After Viking River Cruises picked me up and took me to the Hilton Budapest in the Castle District, any concerns that I had were forgotten.  After a short nap, it was time to find some local Hungarian food and beer.  Boy, did I accomplish that!
